The project is designed to contribute to the reduction in irregular (illegal) migration by creating employment opportunities for the youth. The project will be implemented in two sub-cities in Addis Ababa (Yeka and Kolfe Keraneo sub-cities) and two towns in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region/SNNPR (Arba Minch and Wolaita Sodo Towns) where irregular (illegal) migration and youth unemployment is a pervasive problem.
This project is designed to reverse irregular (illegal) migration among youth, a pressing problem Ethiopia faces as a nation. The project is intended to contribute to the reduction in irregular migration through creating employment opportunities for youth. The project will be implemented in two sub-cities in Addis Ababa (Yeka and Kolfe Keraneo sub-cities) and two towns in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region/SNNPR (Arba Minch and Wolaita Sodo Towns) targeting 20,000 migration prone unemployed youths, 80,000 community members, 4 Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutes (TVETs), and 4 Multi Stakeholders Partnership Forums (MSPFs).
The project has the following three specific objectives:
- Enhance the knowledge of 80,000 community members (48,000 females) and 16,800 migration-prone youth on irregular migration, trafficking, and youth unemployment; and strengthen their capacity to change their attitude and practices positively.
- Increase employability for 3,200 youth (1920 females) through enhancing the quality and market relevance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
- Strengthen the capacity of Multi-Stakeholders Partnership Forums/MSPFs to enable them to support, facilitate, and sustain efforts of reversing irregular migration and increasing employment opportunities for the youth.
